Chorister of the Month

Jo de Ligt

thumb_jo

A resident of the Highlands since the early 1970’s, Jo grew up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Music has always played a part in her life and she has taught piano to little children and had the satisfaction of seeing many of them progress to a more experienced teacher and other instruments. She sang with the Moss Vale Uniting Church, the Bundanoon Voices and now with Serendipity, and says ‘singing made me realise that playing an instrument like the piano is not a static art form’.

Jo has worked in Real Estate for 12 years and her presence at Todds RE gives Serendipity and Arts Bundanoon a ticket-selling outlet in the village.

Other interests are dress making, fashion, cooking and walking, and for some years she has led a bible study group: Know Your Bible, which comes under the umbrella of Christian Women Communicating Inc. (CWCI) which was started by two women who had a passion for reaching out to women in the Australian Outback. CWCI and Know Your Bible have gone from these humble beginnings to become an international organisation, now reaching out to women all over the world.

Outback travel has been on the agenda in more recent years with Mr Wright - Brian – whom she married in October ’08, and who is most supportive of everything she does.

Because Jo’s daughter now lives in the area where her mother grew up and she doesn’t see her grandchildren as often as she would like, she developed a pattern six years ago of a weekly phone call in which she reads to the boys, now 10 and 6, thus forming a wonderful bond with them.
