Serendipity: the choir set toes tapping and hips swinging at their recent Bowral concert, 'Shall We Dance'.
The audience was thrilled with the setlist, which included two German folk dances, a samba, the disco rhythm of ABBA's 'Dancing Queen', a charming courtly dance by JS Bach, the romantic 'Begin the Beguine', the English folksong 'Dance to Your Daddy' and the beautiful harmonies of 'My Dancing Day'.
'Oh, Happy Day' provided a medley where dancing in the street passed into a gospel song then to a rich arrangement of Beethoven's famous 'Ode to Joy'.
'Dance on My Heart' was a delightful 'olde world' proposal of marriage which contrasted with the nostalgic beauty of 'The Kerry Dance'.

The men performed 'Three Country Dances', an Elizabethan song said to be 'somewhat bawdy' while the ladies wiggled through a 'Cat ...er ... Pillar of Society'.
During this song, the ladies informed the audience that they were not 'social butterflies' but 'caterpillars' which could banish the blues with 'a bowl of greens'.
Classics such as 'Can-Can' and jazz tune 'I Got Rhythm' were full of energy while 'The Time Warp' from 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' had the audience copying the lively actions of the choir.
Serendipity: the choir will perform at the Bundanoon Memorial Hall this Saturday, September 11 at 3 pm. In December they will present a program entitled 'Sing Noel' with the location to be advised. Details: 4869-2236.
