From the Southern Highland News

May 2008

More than 140 people braved the Bundanoon rain and cold last Saturday for the first performance of the Highlands' newest choral group, Serendipity: the choir.

'It was a huge success,' choirmaster Kerith Fowles said.

'We had to delay the start to put out more chairs because we just weren't expecting such a phenomenal turnout.'

'And we even had a few people request to join after hearing our performance.'

The concert series is entitled 'The Darling Buds of May' and takes the name from Shakespeare's Sonnet 18.

'It's a beautiful sonnet and the line provides us with the concerts' major themes: love from darling, nature from buds, and autumn and spring (depending on what hemisphere you come from) from May,' Ms Fowles said.

The programme includes music from numerous styles and countries ranging from the 18th to the 20th Century.

Serendipity: the choir is holding a second performance of its Darling Buds of May series on Sunday at the Bowral Uniting Church. The concert commences at 3pm. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for concessions.
