Formed in February this year, Serendipity is already one of the busiest, most sought-after choirs in the Southern Highlands. Their initial performances in May 2008 of a programme entitled 'The Darling Buds of May' were enthusiastically received by near-capacity audiences in Bowral and Bundanoon.

During the mid-year absence overseas of Music Director Kerith Fowles, four members of the 30 voice choir undertook to act as section coordinators, and under their direction work began on the programme for the end of year concerts. Preparation for this program, titled 'Tis the Season', is well under way, and performances are scheduled for Bowral Uniting Church on Saturday 13 December at 4.00pm, and Bundanoon Hall on Saturday 20 December, also at 4.00pm.

The choir has been very busy in October, with ‘slices' of Serendipity performing in the Highlands Proms series in Mittagong and at the dedication of the new RSL memorial in Bundanoon. Another ‘slice' is preparing to take part in a world premiere performance of a new work composed expressly for the Southern Highlands. Written by local composer Andrew Ford, "The Singing Quilt" will bring together over 100 singers, 5 percussionists from the ANU, and recorded interviews with Highlands residents. Two performances are scheduled for 1 November - 3.00pm and 7.00pm - in the Bundanoon Hall.

In keeping with the intention of the choir to support our local community, Serendipity will be leading Carols by Candlelight at the Bundanoon Oval on Wednesday 10 December, and the inaugural Carols by Candlelight at Harbison Burradoo on Sunday 14 December. Both these events will be in the early evening. The Bundanoon Carols will be in support of fundraising by our Primary School, to construct a covered outdoor area for the children, and it is anticipated that many children will be participating.

Members of Serendipity will also be carolling at Linkside on the afternoon of 21 December, and supporting carols at St Aidan's Anglican Church, Exeter, on Christmas Eve.
